Digital Illustration: Pig

This weeks topic in Digital Illustration was "pig." I was planning on doing an "underwater pigasus" but I recently watched Sylvestor Stallone's "Oscar" and decided that a 20's gangster spin would be a lot more fun.

Experimenting

This is an example of how much harder I need to work. The goofy face was unfortunately not by me, but I have been trying to learn some of the digital techniques. I was playing with a much softer background than I usually do (obviously picked some of his color palette), and I am trying to figure out how to have the charcoal/pencil sketchiness in my paintings. I OCD when it comes to controlling my paintings and I tend to lose a lot of the drawing. So here is my attempt at a basset hound and trying to replicate this guys very cool technique in 30 minutes. :-)

BYU-Idaho Performance Art Brochure Fall 2009

This was for the BYU-Idaho Brochure that has all the major events of the semester. The theme was "music+fall." The conductor directing the leaves was one of the first 10 ideas that I had. I really wanted a Harvest Moon in it but It was a challenge for me to create a "Fall Atmosphere" with all the blues and violets, but it was a lot of fun and a great experience. (And yes, it's the wrong year, it's what they gave me to work with.)

Sisters at Play

This is an oil painting that I did for my illustration class, I thought it might be good to try something a little bit more mellow than normal. Later I scanned this painting into the computer and touched it up in photoshop. I think it made a big difference.

Thunder Thighs...on a Thunder Bird?

I was facebooking and one of my friends had this sweet picture and I had to paint it. I changed the outfit and the hairdo, but basically, it's the same... :-D I love random projects like this, I know there are a lot of problems but not bad for 2.5 hours

The Barbarian

This is another painting for my illustration class. My dad and brothers used to go to a local barber with a shop called "The Barbarian." Cal passed away a few years ago and he was the nicest man and always gave the boys the best haircuts in their lives. In a round-about way, this is a small tribute to Cal. . . . kinda.

Devotional Sketching

I just took a drawing from the good-ol sketchbook and redrew it in photoshop. I did the drawing at a devotional at BYU-I and this girl was gorgeous. The drawing looks nothing like her but I had a lot of fun tweaking it.

IF: Legendary; Icabod Crane

Legendary...let's see.....The Legend of Sleepy Hollow!!!! I don't know why but Icabod totally fascinates me.... I love that old Disney cartoon with Bing Crosby singing away! ha ha, gotta love it. Anyways I shouldn't have done this because of the huge homework load I have to do in addition to this. Oh well, happiness rules.

"I Will Survive"

The fabulouso assignment that was given was to illustrate one of our favorite songs. I was really excited about creating the mood and atmosphere, and to work on the character. She's just so happy to give up the fast food and calories.

'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde' Book Cover

I got great painting milage out of this one! I actually had started a whole other painting and was 8-9 hours into it and then I finally had to own up that the gesture of Jekyll's arm was all wrong. So I started all over. But I think it was worth it because the colors are ten times better and the gesture is fabulous. And I know that if I had kept it the way it was, that stupid arm would haunt me for the rest of my life!!! I'm sure many of you know how it is :-)

"Hope and Change"

Okay so first thing you need to know about me is that I am a terrible person! I personally don't pay much attention to politics and I wasn't too excited about this project at first. But then then ideas started flowing in and this was a blast to do. I did vote however! So I guess I'm not that terrible of a person after all. . . .
