More "Libritos" for Imagine Learning

I love these smaller books because I get to explore and try different things. We usually only spend a week or two on them, so they're simplified quite a bit.

Experimenting with new brushes in Photoshop; New textures; different way of drawing trees and environments.

I don't like apes/ monkeys btw.  'Planet of the Apes' disturbes me to no end! I hate those movies!  These little monkeys may be cute here, but all the preliminary sketches were horrific little monsters! Gorillas are cool though. :-)

Playmill Poster 2013

The Playmill Theatre asked me to create their poster again this year! I did the illustration/ color and the graphic design was by Kari Schuerch.

They are a small theatre located in West Yellowstone. It's one of my favorite places, and if you get to go, be sure to get the huckleberry fudge! It's Divine!

Blue Triceratops: Speed Painting - Hollie Hibbert

Song: Alanis Morissette/ Spiral

Blue Triceratops

First off, I am aware that this is the same pose as the moose I just did. There is a good reason however. :-) I noodled this one more than I intended to. This was just a fun exercise and experimentation. Nothing 'groundbreaking', but it was very beneficial for me. 2 hours-ish.

Took a sketch from my sketchbook to finish. I haven't had a lot of time to sit and render stuff out lately. But I have been keeping up with my sketchbook and I've been using instagram to take the snapshots of the better ones. It's been really great practice.

Tugboats

These are for a little book I illustrated at Imagine Learning. It was fun to try out a new technique and subject matter.

Having lots of fun at the office...

This was for Imagine Learning's Vision Conference 2012. Many thanks to Jake Parker for putting this together. 20 points to Gryffindor if you can spot the type-o!

Stardust: What do stars do??

I WILL finish this, I just was too eager to post. It's been forever since I've had the time to sit and create a piece just for fun.

"And you can die too for all I care!"

I was done painting for the night (practically falling out of my chair I was so tired). I checked my facebook and a friend of mine who had just had a birthday yesterday, posted this on my birthday wish to him, "Hollie, paint me something!"....I was too tired to argue, so 20 minutes later, this happened!

I am finding that I am drawing kids with the same boring head shapes. So now I am trying to improve my concentration on the DIFFERENCE of each particular person. Why is this person different than somebody else? I read somewhere that " . . .Anytime you're doing a strong drawing of anything well, you're depicting it is DIFFERENT from something else." (Milt Kahl)

So from now on, I'm going to be thinking a little bit more about a character before I just jump into it. Also I found a really great quote about drawing from life by Art Babbitt:

"If you can't draw,-forget it. You're an actor without arms and legs"

Cats

I am a dog person. I despise cats, especially the hairless ones. But I thought I'd try to be more open-minded and lo-and-behold; the sphynx (the hairless one) was the funnest to draw. . . creepy.

Comic for ILE's newletter

I thought I'd show a little more process than I usually do. I normally hate showing my sketches. It's kinda like going out in public with no make-up on. It's UGLY, and I feel exposed. Which is silly, so here's my attempt to get over it! :-)
I rarely ever get it right the first time. Usually there's a lot of back and forth and many times, the idea has to evolve into something completely different.

Nothing too exciting, but these were fun. Playing with new brushes and with the mixing brush tool in CS5.

LOOK MOM! I'm painting with REAL PAINT!

Yes yes, it has been ages since I've gotten my oils out, don't judge! My new apt that I moved into has a lot of wall space that I'm itching to fill. This is still unfinished, so I'm open to lots and lots of critiques, (more so about design, cuz I have a lot of plans for the color). (This is of the Rexburg LDS Temple btw).
